National Youth Coalitions and Union of Youths

The Executive Director Legal Aid Board, Claire Carlton Hanciles told them about the work of the Board and stressed its importance in the lives of youths. Mrs Carlton Hanciles informed them that the Truth and Reconciliation Report recommended that Legal Aid should be made available to the people of Sierra Leone, and a pilot stage was started in 2008. In 2012, the Legal Aid Act was passed in Parliament. She called on the youth to partner with the Board, in order to be able to afford the people in their different communities Legal Aid in time of conflict with the Law. In her power point presentation, the Legal Aid Boss gave the youths a comprehensive update of the work of the Board, which revealed that a 75% of the clients of the Board and in the jails are youths.  She advised the youths to keep out of trouble to avoid falling foul of the Law.
