Honour before Honours’ has paid a very good dividend to the Human Rights Giant, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Board Sierra Leone, Mrs Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles, a product of the Methodist Girls High School. The National Opinion Pools Sierra Leone, a network of online contributors, has recognized Mrs Fatmata Claire-Hanciles as a ‘Woman of Substance’, at a Certification Ceremony held on Tuesday 8 th March, The International Women’s Day. The colourful ceremony took place at the MAS Entertainment Complex, Calaba Town. Some 40 women of substance were recognized for their good contributions to their communities, for which hundreds of relatives, friends and acquaintances happily cheered them. The Legal Aid Board in collaboration with the Office of the Attorney General has held a land mark meeting with the people of the Calaba Town community, at the Fomex Carwash Football Field at Calaba Town. Hundreds of people turned out to hear the goodwill message of free legal representation provided by the Government of Sierra Leone. The Executive Director, Legal Aid Board, Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles, described the Legal Aid Board as the new suckling mother Government has created to defend the people of Sierra Leone. Mrs Carlton-Hanciles said that His Excellency the President saw the immense violation of the rights of his people and concluded that free legal representation to his people, will put an end to those violations. So, on 2012, the Legal Aid Act was passed in parliament. Thus, the term, ‘poman nor get lorya’ has changed to ‘poman don get lorya’. Legal Aid Board Sierra Leone and the Office of the Attorney General have held a land mark meeting with the various trader groups in Sierra Leone. The meeting which was geared towards the processes of the formation of an Umbrella Trader Executive, and the a Trader Cooperative Bank, took place at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall, 3 rd Floor, Guma Building, Lamina Sankoh Street in Freetown. Leaders of the various trader groups gave the views of their groups for the formation of the two entities. The meeting started with the Legal Aid Executive Secretary’s update and information. The Legal Aid Board Executive Secretary, Mrs Claire Carlton-Hanciles gave a situational analysis of the Boards activities, regarding the release, bail and imprisonment of indigents, which disclosed that seventy-eight people were discharged in February. The Legal Aid Board Sierra Leone has held a maiden meeting with Executives of the Inter Religious Council Sierra Leone, highlighting terms of partnership and other issues. The meeting took place at the offices of the Inter Religious Council of Sierra Leone, Walpole Street in Freetown.   In a power point presentation, the Executive Director, Legal Aid Board Sierra Leone, Mrs Clare Carlton-Hanciles informed the Inter Religious Council Executives of the activities and achievements of the Board. She said that the Board has the mandate to give free legal representation to indigent in the 149 chiefdoms in Sierra Leone, and that the Board is independent.
